Yes! A girl can be a programmer

The world’s first known programmer was a woman. Raising awareness around individual women programmers and their specific accomplishments helps remedy the misconception that programming has always been a man’s world.

A lot of women are not aware of the power of IT. Our dreams and aspirations can often be traced to a role model or someone we wanted to be like. But not everyone is lucky enough to have that inspiring person in our lives. There are fewer women in Tech because some are lack awareness, and fear. Because of the percentage of men in the tech field, some women may feel that there will be too much competition, that they won’t be able to measure up against men with experience.

The Struggle

Taking up this course is my parent’s decision. I have basic knowledge of how to use a computer but in programming? I don’t have any idea at all. When I entered University for Information Technology, At the time, there were not many women in the program.

Most of my grades in programming are 75-78%. My only goal is to pass the course and graduate. But when I entered the real world, I don’t know what career path I want to take. I applied to 10 companies and I failed the technical exam. I felt that this is not good, my parents already wanted me to have a job.

How I started

I compiled my failed exams and I did a lot of research about it. I attended seminars, study groups, watched YouTube videos that are related to my field, And attend free courses training that can also help me in several programming languages. I learned that our course will not teach us everything. We have to self-study and explore programming.

Then, I got my first job as a CMS Developer and transferred as a DevOps Developer focusing on Mobile applications. I started with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, SEO, XML and it was my first time to code from scratch it was really tough for me also I am the only girl in our team. After a year, I got comfortable with things, with the help of my seniors, and colleagues.

Working in the tech industry is not easy, it is challenging. A lot of effort, hard work, and analysis when you encounter an error in your code. It also needs long patience when you are in the Tech field.

IT’S GOOD FOR EVERYONE

I have based the suggestions above on my experience, which is one of many paths towards a career as a developer. Coding can seem overwhelming in the beginning, but don’t worry—it’s like that for almost everyone. Everyone gets there at their own pace, though, so don’t be discouraged if you’re not a code master right away. Keep learning languages. You just learned your first syntax. You’re already well on your way to becoming a programmer. The world of technology is open to everyone, and many companies are actively seeking women to diversify their teams. So now is a great time to stand up for yourself and follow your passion.
